Because the female criminal behavior is often nonviolent, we conduct social activities, artistic contests, and skill training (often engaging by the professional instructors) to develop the function of correction of the prison, based on female criminal characteristics and psychological experiences. Since the foundation of the institution, we have made the following significant achievements:
(1) Attach importance to the curriculum of religious spiritual growth.
In addition to spiritual instruction, religion provides substantial benefits in purifying mental and inspiring goodwill. It is beneficial to the inmates. We attach more importance to the growth of the mental of the inmates. Therefore, it is currently cooperating with Catholic groups, I-Kuan Tao, Buddhism, Christianity and other religious groups to set up religious spiritual growth classes. Volunteer instructors from various religious groups also regularly come to prison to hold various activities and large-scale religious ceremonies at specific festivals to fulfill the religious needs of the shelters.
(2) Drug addiction treatment
Drug users often have other diversified problems of mental health, work, family and social function impairment. The supervisor combines criminal justice sanctions and addiction treatment to define the concept of addiction and addiction strategies, family and interpersonal relationships, development and financial management, drug hazards and legal responsibilities, health education and AIDS prevention, correct drug use concepts and medical treatment counseling, as well as education for successful drug rehabilitation, and other 7 major courses, and with health, social, and labor Form a 4-party link and work together to prepare the drug offenders for returning to the social connection community.
(3) Drunk driving intervention program
In view of the seriousness of social incidents caused by drunk driving (alcohol addiction), the Superintendent has considered the concept of “three-level prevention” in public health, planning and designing a drunk driving (alcohol addiction) treatment plan, establishing a correct understanding of the drunk drivers and assisting in solving individual problems. Promote behavioral change. The third-level prevention encounter is as follows:
First, the primary prevention level
Enhance the shelter to understand the dangers of drunk driving and prevent drunk driving in the future.
Second, the level of secondary prevention
Cognitive counseling education courses are conducted for those who cannot safely drive criminals and high-risk groups of alcohol addiction, in order to enhance the sense of illness and induce motivation.
Third ,the tertiary prevention level
Provide professional treatment for alcohol addiction cases.
(4) Special results of swearing to quit smoking
According to the regulations, the inmates are allowed to smoke in the prison, but only under specific time and areas. However, in order to cooperate with and implement the government's No Smoking Policy, we make every effort to help the inmates quit smoking. A survey of no smoking was conducted every three months for the inmates. Rewards were given to those who have achieved great success in quit smoking. So far, we have retained a good record of no smoking now, creating a better living environment for everyone.
(5) Strengthening the situation of carrying children in the prison
The construction of outdoor game facilities for the inmates and their children, engaging in outdoor parent-child activities, and strengthening the physical activities of young children. Purchasing teaching materials and teaching aids to strengthen the ability of children to integrate their feelings, launching special lectures and parenting education or early childhood development courses to enhance the mother's pro-function
force and educate the knowledge, guide the mother to understand the child's physiological development, and help the child to face the fear of knowledge and cultivate empathy, strengthen parent-child relationship. Make a record of growth for young children, so that every child can make good memories in every stage of growth. Children over the 2 years old are enrolled in kindergardens during the day. Children learn regular campus courses, and the growth of interpersonal relationships.
(6) Encourage reading
In order to enhance the reading atmosphere of the inmates, create a humanistic environments, strengthen the positive value of the inmates and enhance the depth of the life education of the host, set up a "Learning Class for the Book Club", invite professional intellectuals to guide the discussion and analysis, and train the seed members of the book club. Push the square house or the parish to set up a reading club.
(7) Daily self-reflection
In order to cultivate the ability of understanding and self-reflection, the inmates use the time of meditation every day to make mind at peace or ease, review the daily life and the actions, and think about the words of life to correct themselves. The purpose is to let the inmates slowly and unconsciously change their wrong attitudes over a period of time to be inspired to correct their evil ideas and restore good behaviors.
(8) Education and art competition and recreational activities
Each month, different educational art competitions, and recreational activities are held in combination with social resources. These activities include specific presentations, poetry concert sharing, talent and skill performances, fun competitions and celebrations. In addition, we regularly conduct phone calls and face-to-face visitation on the eve of the Spring Festival, Mother's Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. The Dragon Boat Festival will also host a competition of packing rice dumpling. Let the inmates show their talents and expressiveness, and their performance is always very impressive. Not only let the inmates have good memories, but increase the charm and entertainment in a monotonous life of imprisonment.
In addition, at the end of every year we hold a contest for enhancing the aesthetic environment of the prison. Inmates can freely exert their originality and ingenuity by decorating the workshops and cloisters with original art designs. The results are various and diverse paintings, posters, and ornaments which greet the eyes as soon as you enter the security area. Viewers are not only impressed by how versatile and talented the inmates are, but also sense the vivacious, supple and harmonious ambiance of the prison.
(9) Wonderful arts and talent training courses
In order to cultivate sensitivity to art and talent, and to strengthen the knowledge of the traditional culture of the inmates, we hold various talent courses, dance, calligraphy and traditional Chinese lantern production, painting, creative knots, etc. These courses have trained many inmates to improve the artistic temperament and enhance the growth of the mental.
(10) Versatile counseling and assistance programs
For those who are about to be discharged from the prison, Kaohsiung Women’s Prison has established an independent counseling system, inviting honorary instructors and chaplains for one-to-one inmate consultation. Through this counseling, we expect to help them successfully readapt to society. For those who have diseases, we have professional nursing and caring staff for hygienic knowledge instruction and medical assistance. An Adult Education Class has also been developed for illiterate inmates (often the older generation), or for those who have difficulty reading. At the end of the course they take an academic attainments examination and are granted an equivalent degree if they pass. Moreover, we monthly invite professional lawyers and prosecutors to give speeches on specific topics.
(11) Community involvement
Every endeavor has been made to select and invite eligible public figures with high moral character who are committed to public welfare to participate in our programs for inmate rehabilitation. Likewise, the various social groups such as religious groups, public welfare organizations, and after-care service groups have contributed tremendously toward our skill and vocational training, education and counseling, recreation activities, and after-care services. Community involvement has made what we are today, and will continue to sustain us in the future.
(12) Successful cases of self-monitoring going work at daytime and Long-term care policies
Kaohsiung Women’s Prison has actively promoted the establishment of a caregiver class and fostered nursing service caregiver, matching the government's long-term care policy. This policy is to achieve "integration of training and use" in the end. In addition to assisting prisoners back to work, they can also help to provide the needs of social care service in the future.
In order to strengthen the intermediate situation, we started the "self-monitoring going work at day time " in June 2016, allowing the prisoners to return to the society gradually under the semi-restriction without guardian supervising, and encourage the prisoners to stay in the original manufacturers, looking forward to help them back to work, and successfully return to the society.
